These summer evening family photos at Marie Curtis Park in Etobicoke were such a joy to photograph. It was so special to see this family again for another session. I photographed them when their daughter was just a baby, and this time they returned as a family of four with their sweet one-year-old son and their dog in tow.
Because they live in Etobicoke, I suggested Marie Curtis Park for their July session, and it turned out to be the perfect summer evening location for relaxed family photos by the lake.
Marie Curtis Park is such a lovely spot for family photos in Etobicoke. The park has a mix of open green space, beautiful trees, and access to the shoreline along Lake Ontario. It offers so many natural backdrops in one location, which makes it perfect for relaxed family sessions where kids can explore and play.
With a five-year-old, a one-year-old, and a dog joining the session, we kept everything very relaxed and playful. Lifestyle family sessions are all about letting kids be themselves, and both children had so much fun exploring the park while we captured those natural moments together.
We started the session near some beautiful willow trees that created soft shade and a peaceful setting. It was the perfect place to begin, allowing the kids to warm up and settle into the session while we captured some relaxed family moments together.
Next we meandered through the park and stopped in a quiet spot to take some more photos. Big sis got to get her twirl on and little brother practiced his standing. During each family session, I like to get lots of combinations of images. Mom and dad were able to connect with each child separately and then together. Big sis also got to have some sweet images taken with her baby brother. The whole family had a cuddle party on the grass too!
We continued on our way through the park and I snapped some fun images of the whole family and dog walking through the open grassy area. I like to incorporate a lot of movement when photographing families with young children. It keeps them engaged and allows them to show off their silly walking!
We finished the session down by the beach just as the evening light softened over Lake Ontario. The water and shoreline created such a calm backdrop to end the session and capture a few final family moments together.
As we ended the session the little ones stopped for a snack break and I had a chance to get mom and dad alone for some photos of just the two of them. Most couples will tell me they haven’t had a proper photo together since their wedding, so I like to take some time each session and take a few photos of just the parents. It’s always nice to have an updated couple photo!
