If you’re expecting, you might be wondering when to book a newborn photographer in Toronto. It’s one of the most common questions I hear from parents, and the answer is earlier than most people expect.
Between preparing for baby and managing everything else on your list, newborn photos often get pushed to the side until later in pregnancy. The reality is that booking your newborn photographer a little earlier can make the entire experience feel much more relaxed and stress-free.
In this post, I’ll walk you through when to book your newborn photos, how scheduling works when babies don’t arrive on their due date, and what timing tends to work best for in-home newborn sessions.

Most parents in Toronto book their newborn session during their second trimester or early in their third trimester.
As a Toronto newborn photographer, I reserve a limited number of newborn sessions each month. This allows flexibility once babies arrive, since very few actually come on their exact due date. When you book in advance, I simply reserve space around your due date in my calendar. Generally we pencil in 2 weeks after your due date.
Once your baby arrives, you send me a quick message and we decide if the selected date still works or if we need to chose a new date that works best for your family.
Booking ahead also gives parents one less thing to think about in those final weeks of pregnancy. When your baby arrives, you can simply focus on settling in and enjoying those early days together.

It’s very common for parents to start looking into newborn photography later in pregnancy or even after their baby has arrived. While I always try to accommodate last-minute inquiries when I can, availability can be limited.
As a Toronto newborn photographer, I only take on a set number of newborn sessions each month to allow flexibility around due dates. Because of this, sessions often book up a few months in advance.
Waiting too long can mean fewer options for timing, or in some cases, not being able to secure a spot at all.
If having newborn photos is important to you, booking during your pregnancy helps ensure everything is in place before your baby arrives, so you can simply focus on those early days together.

Unlike traditional posed newborn photography, my sessions are relaxed lifestyle sessions that take place in your home. Because of this, the timing is much more flexible.
I usually schedule newborn sessions between 2 and 6 weeks after birth, and there are a few reasons why this timing tends to work well for families.
First, parents have had a little time to settle in. The first couple of weeks with a new baby can feel like a whirlwind of feeding, sleep deprivation, and learning a whole new routine. Waiting a little longer often means everyone feels a bit more comfortable and relaxed.
Second, babies tend to have slightly more predictable feeding and sleep patterns by this point. That makes it easier to pause for feeds, soothing, or cuddles without the session feeling rushed or stressful.
Another lovely part of photographing babies at this age is that they often have short alert periods. These moments can lead to beautiful natural expressions and connection between parents and baby, which is exactly what lifestyle newborn photography is all about.
Most importantly, lifestyle sessions focus on real family moments rather than carefully posed images, so there is much more flexibility in when we photograph your baby.

One thing many parents wonder is how scheduling works when babies rarely arrive exactly on their due date.
When you book a newborn photography session in Toronto, the session is reserved based on your due date rather than a specific calendar day. I will generally pencil in your session date 2 weeks after your due date.
Once your baby arrives, you simply reach out within the first few days and we’ll confirm the date. Most sessions take place sometime within the first 2 to 6 weeks, depending on how everyone is feeling and what works best for your family.
This flexible approach keeps things simple and stress-free for new parents.

If your baby has already arrived and you’re thinking about newborn photos, don’t worry. It’s still worth reaching out.
Because lifestyle sessions are relaxed and baby-led, newborn photos can still be beautifully captured several weeks after birth.
As a Toronto newborn photographer, I always try to accommodate last-minute inquiries whenever my schedule allows. If you are set on having your newborn session take place when you baby is smaller and sleepier (around the 2 week mark), then I highly suggest booking your session BEFORE your little one makes their appearance. Newborn photographers tend to book out a few months in advance so it’s not always possible to squeeze you in.

If you’re expecting and planning newborn photos, here’s the quick version:
If your baby is already here, it’s still worth reaching out
Book your Toronto newborn photographer during your second trimester if possible
Your session is reserved based on your due date
Newborn sessions typically take place between 2 and 6 weeks after birth

Newborn photography is all about preserving those early days with your baby in a natural and meaningful way. My in-home sessions are designed to feel calm and relaxed so families can simply focus on spending time together while I document the moments that unfold.
If you’re expecting and thinking about newborn photos, the best time to reach out is during pregnancy so we can reserve space around your due date.
