Living in Toronto means you have a lot of options for Toronto midwives clinics. No matter where you are in the city, there is a great midwife clinic for you! A midwife is a great choice for expecting mothers who are having an uncomplicated pregnancy, and maybe want more control over their birth experience. If you are expecting and looking for a midwife clinic in Toronto, I’ve compiled a list of the best midwives in each area of the city! Let’s get into it.
According to the Ontario Midwifery Act (December 31, 1993), “The practice of midwifery is the assessment and monitoring of women during pregnancy, labour and postpartum period of their newborn babies, the provision of care during normal pregnancy, labour and postpartum period and the conducting of spontaneous vaginal deliveries.”
In Ontario, being under the care of a midwife is covered by OHIP, so this is a great alternative if you are having an uncomplicated pregnancy and want a more holistic approach to your pregnancy, and would like the choice of where you deliver. Whether it be at home or a birth centre or your local hospital, the choice is yours. As you will see in the list below, each Toronto midwife clinic will have a home hospital it has privileges at. Based on where you want to deliver, your choice of clinic may be narrowed down to a specific area of the city.
Opened in 1983, this midwives clinic has offered prenatal care, labor and delivery care, and postpartum support for families throughout West Toronto. They have a staff of 21 midwives, so they can attend a home birth if that’s your preference, or they can attend births at the Toronto Birth Centre or Mount Sinai Hospital.
With 14 different midwives on staff, you can always feel safe and comfortable with your midwife. The staff here can attend births at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, the Toronto Birth Center, and they can attend your at-home birth!
Staffed at 15 midwives and located right in the heart of Toronto, the staff here will be more than happy to guide you through your home birth or work with you at Toronto Birth Centre or St. Joseph’s Hospital. This is a great location if you’re located in Central Toronto!
Community Midwives of Toronto
This midwife care is considered a ‘teaching’ practice where all 13 midwives are clinical preceptors to midwifery students. How cool is that?! This clinic has privileges at St. Michael’s Hospital or Toronto Birth Centre. Or, if you prefer a home birth, they will be right by your side!
If you’re looking to deliver your little miracle at North York General Hospital, this is the midwife clinic for you! With over 14 midwives on staff, this clinic offers more than just midwife care. They go above and beyond for their clients, click here to learn how.
